To be referred to as the Annual Meeting

Of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc.

The regularly scheduled Quarterly Convention of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association was called to order by the Association President, Diana Pfersick, RNC at 6:30 PM.  The site of the convention was Penfield House #1 located on Penfield Rd. in the town of Penfield, NY.

The Assembly was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag by the Sgt.-At-Arms and the Opening Prayer for Guidance was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.

At this point the Convention was adjourned for the dinner that was prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Penfield Fire Department.  The Bill of Fare was a full Barbequed Chicken dinner that was delicious and well received by a “hungry assembly”.  The dinner was topped off by ice cream sundaes.  The Kitchen rates were brought forth for a hearty round of applause by the attendees.

The Convention at this point was re-convened and with the taking of the roll call, it was determined that a quorum existed to conduct any and all business brought to the floor by the attendees.

The attendees were welcomed to the Penfield Fire Department by the Department Fire Chief and Mr. Lynd Hicks rose to introduce the attending guests of the Association.

The Minutes of the previous meetings were approved on a motion called for by the Chair; Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC.  Motions were recorded as 1st by Mr. A. Way and 2nd by Mr. C. Randell.  The motion was approved with no additions or corrections by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes cast.

COMMUNICATIONS:

There were several pieces of correspondence read and discussed.  The communications were passed over for consideration by those responsible for them to be either implemented of negated.

Bills presented to the Secretary: There was one receipt, (for printing) passed over to the Treasurer for his consideration, workflow and future payment on approval of the Directors.


Treasurer’s Report:            Mr. W. Nichols

This being the annual meeting of the Association, the Treasurer gave a complete and thorough report on the financial state of the Association.  There was no discussion or questions from the attendees.  The report of the Treasurer was approved on a motion called for by the Chair. 1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion passed by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes noted.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Audit:

No report at this time.

Banquet:            Mr. W. Nichols

The Annual Banquet of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Inc. will be held in conjunction with the Monroe County Ladies Auxiliary at the Green Lantern Party House located in Fairport, NY on May 8, 2010.  The tickets are $25.00 per ticket.

Budget and Finance:            Mr. R. Diehl

Mr. R. Diehl reports that “All is ok” at this time.

Investment Advisory:            Mr. G. Klingenberger

Mr. G. Klingenberger reports…Argggggh. At this time.

Constitution and Bylaws:

There was no report at this time.

Emergency Medical Committee:            Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC

Explorers:            Mr. R. Pfersick

The Explorers Awards Banquet will be held at the Sea Breeze Fire Department on May 13, 2010. This year’s Award Winner is Mr. Jason Terzo.

FASNY will have a “Youth Day” at the Convention this year and the attachment is attached to this document.

Fire Prevention Essay Contest:            Mr. A. Way

Hospitality Room:            Mr. D. Sweet

There was a discussion of joining with the Western Association in the costs of a Hospitality Room at the State Convention.  The cost will be $500.00 from the Convention Account.  There was a motion called for by the Chair on this matter.  1st by Mr. D. Sweet.  2nd by Mr. W. Kramer.  The motion passed with no discussion by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes cast.


Historical:            Mr. A. Sweet

Mr. A. Sweet brought to this Convention a series of photographs from the past to be enjoyed by the attendees.  (They indeed were reviewed and brought back some great memories and discussions were of the “Good Times and Good Friends”, some of them now passed on.)

Mr. A. Sweet reported on some upcoming anniversaries:

Honeoye Falls: 125 years old this year.  There will be a parade on June 19, 2010 at 6:30 PM.

Clifton: 75 years old this year and they will be celebrating on August 6-7, 2010.

Morton: 75 years old this year.

Barnard Exempts: 75 years old this year.

Legislative:            Mr. W. Nichols

There was a 5 year extension to the “Heart Bill”.  There was also a 5 year extension to the “Cancer Bill”.

Other than these reported actions, ”There’s not a lot going on down there”.

Membership:            Mr. W. Nichols

Mr. W. Nichols reports that although it’s going well, the response has been a bit slow this year.  The breakdown to date is 1,365 FASNY Members, 1,387 Monroe County members.  47 Groups are paid at this point.

Nominating:

Public Relations:            Mr. C. Dunn

The Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. can now be accessed on Facebook (www.facebook.com).

Resolution:            Mr. L. Zarnstorff

The names of the members of the Association who passed away since the last Quarterly Convention were read into the record by Mr. L. Zarnstorff and a Prayer on their behalf was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.  The bell was sounded in their honor signifying their “Final Alarm”.  The list is attached to this document and can be reviewed at the Association web site, www.mcvfa.com.

Steering Committee:            Mr. D. Sweet

The recommended appointments etc. were approved on a motion called for by the Chair…..1st by Mr. L. Hicks.  2nd by Mr. L. LeonE.  The motion was carried by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes cast by the attendees.

There was a motion made after discussion by Mr. D. Sweet to have purchased….one ticket for officials for the Past Presidents Dinner at the FASNY Convention to be held in Long Island.  There was no discussion or dissent noted.  The motion passed by voice acclimation.

Special Events:

Awards Committee:

The Firefighter of the Year Award was bestowed on Mr. David Sweet.

The Explorer Award winner is Mr. Jason Terzo.  The award will be presented at a Banquet to be held May 13, 2010 at Sea Breeze Fire Department.

Mr. Sweet will be honored at the MCVFA (Inc.) Banquet to be held May 8, 2010 at the Green Lantern Party House, located in Fairport, NY.

Topics:            Mr. R. Pfersick

At the next Quarterly Convention….there will be a speaker and a topic.

Transportation:            Mr. D. Sweet

The reservation for the fall Legislative Conference has been made at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road, Albany, NY.  More to follow as details are firmed up.

Yearbook:

No report at this time.

Special Committees:

The subject was covered under the heading Special Events.

The Health Fair at the Dome:            Mr. R. Chichester

The application for the MCVFA (Inc.) participation has been sent in.  More to follow as information becomes available.

There was a motion called for to close and approve all Committee Reports as given.  1st by Mr. R. Diehl.  2nd by Mr. C. Bommele.  The motion passed by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes cast.

REPORTS OF REPRESENTATIVES AND DELEGATES:

Finger Lakes Burn Association:

No report at this time.

Fire Advisory Board:            Mr. L. Ritz

County Fire Chiefs:            Mr. A. Sweet

The Equipment Show and Dinner will be held this year at the Dome Arena on August 11, 2010.  The event kicks off at 3:00 PM with dinner to run from 5-7 PM.  Tickets are $25.00 each.

The Fire Awards/Appreciation Dinner is to be held on October 7, 2010 at the Diplomat Party House.

Drills and Officials:            Mr. R. Chichester

“The teams are ready for the season”.

Fire Districts and Fire Marshals had no report at this time.

County Fire Police:

The Fire Police Seminar will be held May 1, 2010 at the Brockport High School.  There are 2 renowned speakers on tap.

Safety Officers:

No report at this time.

FASNY:            Mr. D. Sweet

Mr. D. Sweet reports the appointment of Mr. Edward Tase to the FASNY Board of Directors on an interim basis.  The FASNY Convention will be on Long Island……August 18-20, 2010.

NCNYVFA:

NCNYVA will not be presenting a candidate for awards due to lack of interest.

The Banquet is to be held on June 13, 2010.

The Convention is scheduled for June 4-5, 2010.

WNYVFA:

The next meeting is to be held at Shawnee Fire Department on Sunday June 13, 2010 at 2:00 PM.

July 21, 2010 is the start of their Convention.

REPORT OF OFFICIALS AND DELEGATES:

Chaplains Association:            Mr. R. Pfersick

Their Convention was held in Auburn, NY.  Mr. R. Pfersick and Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC attended this worthwhile event.

Coordinators Office:

No report at this time.

State Fire Police:

The Convention is set for Mayville, NY May 20-23, 2010.

BATTALION REPORTS:

At this time there were no Battalion Reports given.

OLD BUSINESS:

There was no old business brought to the floor by the attendees.

NEW BUSINESS:

There was a discussion of the need to change the bylaws to reflect the need for fewer directors per battalion.  This will insure a realistic quorum needed to conduct the Association business.

There also was a discussion revolving around the need to update the Association bylaws to reflect the current needs of the Association.

There was a motion called for to reserve a page in these minutes in memory of Mr. Michael N. Smith, the recently deceased Association 1st Vice President.  1st by Mr. L. Hicks.  2nd by Mr. A. Way.  The motion was carried by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes heard of counted.

The Election Process was then the order of business.

The Nominating Committee report is also attached to this document.

There were two (2) nominations recorded from the floor.

Mr. William Schlegel for Director which was declined by Mr. W. Schlegel, and Mr. Glen Klingenberger for Vice President which was declined by Mr. G. Klingenberger.

The elected slate was then presented.

Thanked all present for the assistance she received during her terms as President.

1st Vice President:            Mr. Lynd Hicks

Gave thanks to all the committees and their members for all the work they have done and made mention that one of his first orders of business will be the review of the current bylaws.


GOOD AND WELFARE:

Next Quarterly Convention will be in Union Hill on July 14, 2010.

There was a motion called for to pay the financial obligations of the Association.  1st by Mr. R. Diehl.  2nd by Mr. R. Pfersick.  The motion passed by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes cast.

With no additional business being brought to the floor there was a motion called for to adjourn the Quarterly Convention.  This was by multiple members in unison and the 2nd also was by multiple members in unison.  The motion passed by acclimation.

The Closing Benediction was given by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.

 

The Meeting was then adjourned.

In Memoriam

Michael N. “Ugly” Smith

April 11, 2010

Webster: Sunday, April 11, 2010, age 60. He leaves his loving wife of 40 years, Beatrice; son, Patrick (Hannah); daughter, Michelle (Philip) Duris; cherished grandchildren, Nolan, Neala & Ella.

Friends are invited to a Celebration of his Life on Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 2-4 PM at the Webster Fire Department Exempt Building, 172 Sanford Street, Webster.

Memorials may be directed to Union Hill FD Ambulance Fund or Webster Fire Department.

.
