January 26, 2011

The regularly scheduled Quarterly Convention of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Inc. was called to order by the Association President, Mr. Lynd Hicks at 7:15 PM after a light lunch of sandwiches, chips and beverages.  The location of the Quarterly Convention was at the Combined Training Facility located at 1190 Scottsville Road, Rochester, NY.

The assembly was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag by the Association President, Mr. Lynd Hicks and the Opening Prayer for Guidance was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.

With the taking of the roll call, it was determined that a quorum existed to conduct all business brought to the floor by those attending the Convention.

The attending guests were introduced by Mr. C. Bommele, the Association 1st Vice President and there were brief welcoming remarks by the Association President, Mr. Lynd Hicks.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved by the assembly with no additions or corrections by a voice vote on a motion made by Mr. A. Way and a second by Mr. R. Diehl.  There were no discussions noted regarding this action.

BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS:

There was a Card of Thanks from the O’Hare Family for the Mass Card given to the family on behalf of the Association.

There were several other communications received and discussed with the assembly.  There were several items given over to the appropriate members for their attention and future action.

There was one receipt given to the Treasurer for his records.

Treasurer’s Report:            Mr. W. Nichols

Mr. W. Nichols stated that he had previously emailed to the officers the complete Treasurer’s Report.  Mr. W. Nichols then briefly discussed the financial obligations of the Association and asked for a motion to pay those obligations.  Mr. R. Diehl made the motion and the 2nd was by Mr. A. Way.  The report of the Treasurer was accepted and approved by voice acclimation.  There were no questions noted.


REPORT OF COMMITTEES:

The following committees had no report at this time for a variety of reasons: Investment Advisory, Hospitality Room, Historical, Public Relations and Special Committees #2.

Audit:            Ms. K. D’Ambra

There’s a meeting scheduled for March 16, 2011 and the final report will be ready by April 1, 2011.

Banquet:            Mr. L. LeonE

The banquet is scheduled for May 7, 2011 at the Green Lantern Party house located in Fairport NY.  It will be a combined event with the MCVFA Inc. Ladies Auxiliary.

Budget and Finance:            Mr. R. Diehl

“Doing OK”.

Constitution and Bylaws:            Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC

The finished product is in the hands of the Association Attorney, Mr. Joel Krane for his review.

Emergency Medical Service:            Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC

Explorers:            Mr. Royer Pfersick

The Awards Dinner is to be held on April 14, 2011 at the Barnard Exempts Club located at 360 Maiden Lane, Rochester, NY 14616.  The cost is $15.00 per ticket.  The Explorer of the Year Award will be given at this event.

Fire Prevention Education:

No report at this time.

Fire Prevention Essay Contest:            Mr. A. Way

Legislative:            Messer’s W. Nichols and D. Sweet

There were several bills discussed and there were handouts available for the members.  For complete information on the legislative program, the members were advised to visit the FASNY web site www.fasny.com.

Membership:            Mr. W. Nichols

Mr. W. Nichols reports the 2nd notices are ready to go out.

Nominating:            Mr. G. Burris

Mr. G. Burris read the report to the members and it is attached to these minutes and can be accessed at the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.

Resolution:            Mr. R. Pfersick

The names of those members who have passed away since the last Quarterly Convention were read by the Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick and a short prayer was offered for the repose of their souls.

Steering Committee:            Mr. D. Sweet

Mr. D. Sweet rose to discuss the conversations with a representative of Niagara County regarding the possible nomination of one of their members to fill a position as Trustee of the Firemen’s Home.  This was part of a plan to then offer a candidate from Monroe County at a later date.

Mr. C. Veltri took exception to this arrangement stating that any decision regarding candidates is to be discussed by the full Steering Committee.  He went on to say that with telephones, email and cell phones, this conversation was ill-advised and should have been put to the entire Steering Committee by one of these means.

Special Events:

There was discussion of the Association attending a Red Wing baseball game as a group.  Mr. G. Klingenberger did some research on the matter and came back with some facts and figures.  The area favored is called “The Perch”.  It includes a large television, seating for 50, a full service bar for those inclined, and food is near by for the attendees.

The price for the area is $675.00 for 50 tickets.  It was suggested that they be offered to the general membership on a first come first served basis and the cost is to be $5.00 per ticket for a member and one guest. (Total $10.00.)

A representative from the Red Wings will be at the February 23, 2011 Board of Directors Meeting to discuss the various options.  There will be the final plan offered in the very near future and there will be a mailing to all county organizations in ample time.

There will be no topic at the April Quarterly Convention due to the scheduled elections of officers.

Yearbook:            Mr. A. Way

Special Committees:

#1 – Awards:            Mr. L. LeonE

Mr. L. LeonE was to receive the material for the Fire Educator Award for his committee’s workflow and suggestions.

There was a motion called for to approve the committee reports as given.  1st by Mr. K. Fuller.  2nd by Mr. Glenn Klingenberger.  The motion was accepted with no dissention noted.

The following Representative and Delegates had no report at this time for a variety of reasons: Fire Districts and Fire Marshals.

Finger Lakes Burn Association:            Mr. A. Way

January 12, 2011 was the date of their Banquet at the Diplomat Party House.

Their next meeting is February 09, 2011 at the Combined Training Facility.

Drills and Officials:

No report at this time.

County Fire Police:            Mr. K. Fuller

The deadline for the Gordon Mosher Award is January 31, 2011.

Next meeting is March 03, 2011 at North Greece, Main Station.

Fire Police Seminar scheduled for July 30, 2011 at Warsaw NY.

Fire Police Convention is in Utica NY April 28-May 01, 2011.

Fire Police Seminar is March 19, 2011 at Montour Falls Training Academy.

Fire Police Seminar is March 04-05 2011 in Macedon NY.

State Fire Police:

May 14, 2011 is the date reported for the Fire Police Seminar at the Brockport High School.

BATTALION REPORTS:

There were no Battalion Reports at this time.

OLD BUSINESS:

There was a motion made by Mr. Glenn Klingenberger to close the Convention Committee Checking Account and place all monies in the General Funds of the Association.  1st by Mr. G. Klingenberger.  2nd by Mr. A. Way.  There were 13 yes votes counted and 7 no votes counted.  The motion passed with no comment recorded.

NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business brought to the floor by the attendees.

REPORT OF THE OFFICERS:

Other than the meeting, there were no reports by the officers at this time.

GOOD AND WELFARE:

None discussed.

With no other business being brought to the floor, there was a motion made by multiple members in unison to adjourn the Quarterly Convention.  There was a 2nd by multiple members and the motion was passed by acclimation.

The Closing Benediction was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.

In Memoriam

Richard F. O’Hare

Sunday, December 26, 2010.  Age 76.  Predeceased by infant son, Timothy; parents, Frank and Catherine (Anrasko) O'Hare.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nicolette "Nicky" (Tiberio) O'Hare; 2 sons, Frank (Denise) and Patrick (Yvonne) O'Hare; grandchildren, Ryan, Renee', Nicole and Rachael; sister, Mary (Bunnie) Lichenstein; brother, Thomas (Vita) O'Hare; many other family members and friends.  He was Past President, Chaplain and a Lifetime member of West Webster Volunteer Fireman's Association, and held many committee posts in various other Firemen's Associations.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Webster Volunteer Fireman's Association, 1051 Gravel Rd, Webster, NY 14580 or Palliative Center for Caring, 1450 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621 in his memory.
