APRIL 26,2012

The regularly scheduled Quarterly Convention of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. was called to order by the Association President, Mr. Lynd Hicks at 6:30 PM.  The location was Gates-Chili #2 Fire Department, 2215 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY.  The assembly was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag by Mr. L. Hicks and was then adjourned for dinner.  The Bill-of-Fare was assorted sandwiches with all the trimmings and assorted beverages.

Following dinner, the Convention was again called to order by Mr. L. Hicks and the Opening Prayer for Guidance was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.

With the taking of the roll call, it was determined that a quorum existed to conduct all business brought to the floor by the attendees.

The host company’s Officers in attendance were introduced by Mr. Glen Klingenberger and, the attending guest dignitaries of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. were introduced by Mr. Louie LeonE.

Mr. L. Hicks, acting Chairperson of the Convention, then called Ms. Maria Martinez, a representative of Sam’s Club, who outlined the benefits that could be afforded the members of the Association with the presentation of their paid up, current membership card used in conjunction with a Sam’s Club Membership in current status.  (The discounts would be substantial and would represent a savings to any member making use of the outlined program.)

The minutes of the previous meetings were approved as to content and form by a motion called for by the Chair.  1st by Mr. G. Klingenberger.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion was carried by voice vote.  There were no additional comments or changes noted.

BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS:

There were several communications read and discussed with the appropriate attendees for their future actions or disposal as positive activities benefitting the Association.

There were several printing bills submitted on behalf of Dunn Studios to the Treasurer, Mr. William Nichols for his workflow and future payment for services rendered on behalf of the Association.

 

 

Treasurer’s Report:                        Mr. W. Nichols

Mr. W. Nichols had previously sent to the Directors copies of two Treasurer’s Reports that covered the previous two months of reporting.  There was a discussion of the bills paid by Mr. W. Nichols along with several hold over’s from the cancelled Board of Directors Meeting from March.

There was no discussion as to form and content.  Therefore, there was a motion to acknowledge the receipt of all information from the Treasurer by the Chair.  1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion passed by voice vote.  There was no dissent noted.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Audit:

No report at this time.

Banquet:            Mr. L. LeonE

May 5, 2012 is the date of the Installation Banquet.  It will be held at the Green Lantern Party House in Fairport, NY.  The tickets are $30. 00 each and to date there are 62 signed up to attend.

Budget and Finance:            Mr. R. Diehl

“Doing pretty good, no surprises yet.”

Investment Advisory:            Mr. G. Klingenberger

“All ok so far.”

Constitution and Bylaws:

No report at this time.

Emergency Medical Service:            Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC

There will be no changes to the “Article 30” rules and regulations at this time.  There may be changes in the future but …none now.

There will be an award given at the FASNY Convention in Syracuse this coming August for an “EMS Provider of the Year”.

Explorers:            Mr. R. Pfersick

Henrietta Fire Department will be holding an Explorer Competition on June 9, 2012 from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

There will be a possible bus trip arranged for Explorers to attend the FASNY “Youth in the Fire Service” day at the FASNY Convention on August 16, 2012.  The bus trip hinges on the number of sign-ups for the trip.  It was agreed that timely notification is the key to participation.

Fire Prevention Education:            Mr. R. Chichester

The Health Fair information is being held up pending receipt of information from the originator.

Fire Prevention Essay Contest:            Mr. A. Way

Mr. A. Way gave a brief summary of the work on the project to date.

Hospitality Room:            Mr. D. Sweet

As reported in past meetings…the Hospitality Room at the FASNY Convention in August will be a shared project with the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association.  The only Candidate from Monroe County this year is Mr. Alan Way, who is standing for election as a Trustee of the Firemen’s Home.

Historical:            Mr. A. Sweet

Mumford and Caledonia are both celebrating their 125th Anniversary this year and there will be a parade on July 21, 2012 in their honor.  Location will be forthcoming in the coming month or so.

Legislative:            Mr. D. Sweet

Mr. W. Nichols reports that to date, the count is 1,159 Paid Members and 1,054 FASNY Members.

Resolution:            Mr. R. Pfersick

The names of the deceased members of the Association were read and the bell was sounded signifying their “Final Alarm”.  There was a short prayer offered by the Chaplain asking protection for their spirits.

Mr. D. Sweet discussed some minor “Housekeeping” procedures as a point of information only.

Special Events:

Topics:            Mr. R. Pfersick

There will be a representative from the Chaplains Association at the next Quarterly Convention to discuss the “Role of the Chaplain” within the fire service.

Special Committees (1 & 2):

There was a motion made to accept the Committee Reports as to form and content.  1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion was carried by voice acclimation.  There were no additions, clarifications or corrections noted.

REPORTS OF REPRESENTATIVES AND DELEGATES:

Finger Lakes Burn Association:

No report at this time.

Fire Advisory Board:            Mr. L. Ritz

County Fire Chiefs:            Mr. A. Sweet

Their next meeting will be held May 9, 2012 at the Hilton FD.  Time reported is 7:00PM.

August 8, 2012 is the scheduled date of the Chief’s Equipment Show and Steak Roast.  It will be held at the Monroe County Fairgrounds Complex located at East Henrietta Road and Calkins Road.

Drills and Officials:

No report at this time.

Fire Districtsand Fire Marshals had no report at this time.

County Fire Police:            Mr. C. Spohr

May 12, 2012 is the scheduled date of the Fire Police Seminar.  It will be held in Brockport, NY.  Location…The High School.

Safety Officers:

No report at this time.

FASNY:            Mr. D. Sweet

Recruit New York was a “Modest Success” and they (FASNY) are hoping for additional recruits to come forward in the future.

Mr. D. Sweet reports there was a decent showing at Ridge-Culver FD.  Syracuse area was OK. Erie County also had an OK showing.

The FASNY Convention will be at Liverpool, NY (Syracuse) and the hopes are that it’s well attended by Monroe County people.  “Youth in the Fire Service” Day will be held on August 16, 2012, and there will be interesting programs for all attendees.

Mr. D. Sweet discussed an in-place dental plan benefitting FASNY Members.  Mr. D. Sweet also reported on a 10% discount at B.J’S Warehouse benefiting FASNY Members.

Also discussed are changes in FASNY Procedures governing nomination of officers.  There will be no nominations accepted from the floor.  New FASNY Bylaws will be discussed.  All amendments will have to be pre-submitted for any consideration to be granted these proposed bylaws.

Mr. D. Sweet discussed the “Moving Up” within the FASNY Organization of their officers.

NCNYVFA:            Mr. G. Burris

WNYVFA:            Mr. K. Fuller

Their Convention is slated for July 25-28, 2012 at Mt. Morris, NY.

The Banquet is to be held on September 12, 2012 at the Genesee Hotel in Mt. Morris, NY.

Churchville will again have a “Hospitality Tent” at the Convention and all are welcome to stop by and have some refreshments and conversation.

REPORT OF OFFICIALS AND DELEGATES:

Chaplains Association:            Mr. R. Pfersick

There will be a Chaplain’s Association representative addressing the next Quarterly Convention of this Association. (July TBA).

Coordinators Office, Firemen’s Home and State Fire Police all had no report at this time.

BATTALION REPORTS:

There were no Battalion reports at this meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

There will be no meeting in July of 2012 due to scheduling difficulties, (Parades and Carnivals, etc.).

June 28, 2012 is the Rush Fire Department.

October 25, 2012 will see the Quarterly Convention. (Location TBA.)

NEW BUSINESS:

Life Membership status was granted to the Messer’s E. Renner, J. Walsh and R. Diehl.  Motion called for by the Association President, Mr. L. Hicks.  The motion and second was done by acclimation and carried with no dissent noted.

REPORTS OF THE OFFICERS:

Mr. L. Hicks thanked all present for the support he received over the past 2 years and wished the incoming Association President, Mr. Glen Klingenberger well for his coming term as Association President.

2nd Vice President:            Mr. Louie LeonE

Reminded the entire assemblage of the upcoming Banquet on May 5, 2012 at the Green Lantern Party House.

GOOD AND WELFARE:

There was an invitation put forth to the Association Officers to attend a Ladies Auxiliary Picnic at the Webster Fire Exempts Facility in Webster, NY on June 6, 2012.  The time reported is 6:30PM.  Attendees are requested to bring a dish to pass.

With no additional business brought to the floor, there was a motion called for to adjourn the Quarterly Convention.  This was done by multiple attendees but for the record will be recorded as done by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. C. Dunn.  There were no dissenting comments heard and the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 PM.

The Closing Benediction was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. R. Pfersick.
