JUNE 28, 2012

The Quarterly Convention of The Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Inc., previously scheduled for the above date, was called to order by the Association President, Mr. Glenn Klingenberger at the Rush Fire Department, located in Rush, NY.  The time recorded and noted was 1920 hrs.

The Convention was preceded by a wonderful dinner of Grilled Chicken Cutlets with several sides and dessert.  Doing duty on the grill was the Association Past President, Ms. Diana Pfersick, RNC.

Following the Opening Prayer for guidance and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, the introduction of attending guests by 2nd Vice President Mr. Dale Nesbitt was recorded.

With the taking of the roll call it was determined that a quorum existed to conduct all business brought to the floor by the attendees.

The minutes of the previous Convention meeting was approved on a motion called for by the Chair, Mr. Glenn Klingenberger.  1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The approval vote was by voice acclimation.  There were no additions or corrections noted at this time.

Topic:

Mr. R. Pfersick presented “The Role of the Chaplain in the Fire Service”.  He described the role of the Chaplain in the events of on-duty injuries, sickness or death, and the utilization of the Chaplain at rehab operations and other stressful situations.  The role of the Chaplain at funeral visitation was also discussed as to the betterment of the Fire Service organizations.  There were in the audience several Chaplains from other organizations who were available for a question and answer session.  There were several questions and comments from the floor regarding the role of the Chaplain.  The report from Mr. R. Pfersick was well received by the attendees and the attending Chaplains have the thanks of the Association for their presence.

Financial Reports:            Mr. W. Nichols

The Treasurer, Mr. W. Nichols rose to discuss the Financial Report with the attendees.  There were no questions on this report and there was a motion called for by the Chair to “Acknowledge” receipt of the Financial Report.  1st by Mr. R. Diehl.  2nd by Mr. A. Way.  The Treasurer’s Report was “Acknowledged” by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting votes cast.


COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Audit Report:

No report at this time.

Budget and Finance:            Mr. R. Diehl

“Running along good”.  The funds the Association invests in are all good and the budget is almost balanced, Mr. R. Diehl reports.  There will be a budget meeting scheduled for possibly the 2nd week in September to formulate the next year’s budget.

Fire Prevention Essay Contest:            Mr. A. Way

The Theme of next year’s Essay Contest is “Two Ways Out”.

Historical Committee:

No report at this time.

Legislative:            Mr. D. Sweet

Mr. D. Sweet rose to discuss current legislation concerning and of interest to the Fire Service…Among the legislation discussed was the Fallen Fire Fighter Bill (also called the Brady Bill).  This is awaiting the signature of the Governor, Mr. Cuomo.  The “Bail and Rope” Bill is also awaiting the action of the Governor.  The Seat Belt issue died in committee as did the novelty lighter issue.  The complete “Legislative Scorecard” can be accessed at www.FASNY.com.

Nominating Committee:

Public Relations:

Resolution:            Mr. R. Pfersick

Mr. R. Pfersick read the list of deceased members and the bell was sounded for each…signifying “The Final Alarm”.  A short prayer in their names was offered by the Association Chaplain.

Steering Committee:            Mr. D. Sweet

Of note: Appointments to various FASNY Committees were approved on a motion called for by the Chair.  1st by Mr. R. Diehl.  2nd by Mr. R. Chichester.

There was a motion called for to support the FASNY Officers currently running for office and up for election at the FASNY Convention to be held in August in Syracuse (Liverpool), NY.  1st by Mr. R. Chichester.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion was carried by voice acclimation.  There were no dissenting or abstaining votes cast.

Mr. D. Sweet also reported that Mr. C. Bommele was to replace Mr. Alan Price, who resigned his position on the Steering Committee.

Hospitality Room:            Mr. D. Sweet

The hospitality room at the FASNY Convention will be a shared effort with the WNYVFA.  This is said to be a cost cutting measure.

Topics:            Mr. R. Pfersick

Mr. R. Pfersick is “Working on it” (Although the favored subject may well be dealing with Critical Incident Management).

STATE AND REGIONAL REPORTS TO THE MCVFA (INC.):

FASNY:            Mr. D. Sweet

Mr. D. Sweet rose to discuss several items of interest regarding the Firemen’s Home. 1st… The combined census is down.  2nd There is a new Home Brochure and there was a discussion of FASNY funds and donation policies regarding the home in general.

WNYVFA:            Mr. K. Fuller

Their Convention this year will be in Mt. Morris, NY.  Dates are July 25-28, 2012.  Churchville will have a Hospitality Tent and all are welcome to stop by and have a bite to eat and a cold beverage.  If there’s a large gang coming as a group…the Churchville guys would appreciate a “Heads Up” prior to descending on them.

NCNYVFA:            Mr. G. Burris

DELEGATE REPORTS:

Chaplains Association:            Mr. R. Pfersick

Mr. R. Pfersick thanked the various Chaplains who attended this Convention to answer any questions regarding the report given by Mr. R. Pfersick at the beginning of this Convention.

Coordinators Office:

County Fire Chiefs:

Equipment Seminar and Steak Roast will be held at the Dome Arena on August 8, 2012.  The price is $25.00 per ticket.

County Fire Police:

Their next meeting is scheduled for August 2, 2012 at the Training Center.  It is then followed by the event at Spencerport Fire Department on September 6, 2012.

Finger Lakes Burn Association:

No report at this time.

Fire Advisory Board:

They are on their summer vacation.

Fire Marshals:

No report at this time.

Firemen’s Home:

The census is 71 at present.

State Fire Police:

Their Convention was held on May 12, 2012

An event is scheduled for October 12-13, 2012 at Lake George, NY.

BATTALION REPORTS:

Battalion 1:

No report at this time.

Battalion 2:

No report at this time.

Battalion 3:

No report at this time.

Battalion 4:

Battalion 4 reports a few major fires.  They have been very busy with mutual aid calls for assistance.  Gates is awaiting the delivery of 2 new Fire Trucks!

Battalion 5:

July 19-21, 2012 will be the dates of the Rush Carnival.

Woody’s… a popular watering hole was completely destroyed by a fast moving fire.

There has been a lot of activity within the 5th Battalion of late.

REPORTS OF THE PRESIDENTS:

President:            Mr. Glenn Klingenberger

Mr. Glenn Klingenberger reports that he has not heard back from Wegmans on his request for an assistance grant for the up coming Essay Contest.  The figure spoken about is for $2,500.00.  It was further shared with the attendees that Citi Bank may become involved if Wegmans does not.

Emergency Medical Servicemade the report at this junction:

Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC reports that there will be an award given out at the State FASNY Convention to the “EMS Provider of the Year”.

Explorersalso reported at this time:

Mr. R. Pfersick states that there will be a “Youth in the Fire Service Day “at the FASNY Convention in Syracuse, (Liverpool NY).  The date of this event is reported to be August 16, 2012.  It is to be held at the Onondaga Fair Grounds.  There will be a bus provided for transport and this expense will be borne by the MCVFA (Inc.).  There was a figure of $200.00 to the driver.  This figure when spoken of drew no comment.  There was a call for a motion to pay this expense.  1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion was passed by voice acclimation.  There was no discussion. There were no dissenting votes cast.

OLD BUSINESS:

The baseball game promoted by the Association is scheduled for August 3, 2012.  The letters have been sent to member organizations and the deadline for returns is July 23, 2012.  Some information regarding the game was given to the Secretary to send by mail to Ms. E. Schoff.  This will be done on the following day.

NEW BUSINESS:

Mr. R. Diehl rose to discuss the possible raffle of “Collector Grade” stylized statues of fire fighters.  They indeed have a value and the suggestion was thought to be a good one.  There was a motion called for to start the mechanics to accomplish this procedure.  There also was a discussion of starting a 50-50 drawing again.  These two items were put into a motion and received a 1st from Mr. R. Diehl and a 2nd from Mr. R. Pfersick.  The motion carried with no discussion and was approved by voice acclimation.

There was a discussion and motion called for to have a table at the Chiefs Equipment Seminar and Steak Roast.  1st by Mr. K. Fuller.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion was adopted by voice acclimation.  There was no discussion or dissent.

PLANNING COMMITTEE:

No report at this time.

PAYING OF OBLIGATIONS:

There was a motion called for to pay the financial obligations of the Association.  1st by  Mr. A. Way.  2nd by multiple members in unison.  The motion passed with no discussion of the listed obligations as reported by the Treasurer, Mr. W. Nichols.

ILL AND DISTRESSED:

Mr. Charles Bommele is still languishing in Hill Haven Nursing Home.  He reports that he’s getting wonderful care there and hopes to be discharged to his home on July 16, 2012.


GOOD OF THE ORGANIZATION:

Nothing brought to the floor.

With no additional business brought to the floor by the attendees there was a motion called for to adjourn the Quarterly Convention.  This motion was formed by a 1st by Mr. C. Dunn.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion passed by voice acclimation. There was no dissent or further discussion.

The Closing Benediction was offered by the Association Chaplain…Mr. Royer Pfersick.
