April 25, 2013

The Quarterly Convention of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. scheduled previously was called to order by the Association President, Mr. Glenn E. Klingenberger at 7:02 PM at the Gates Fire Department facility located on Chili Avenue, Gates, NY, after a dinner of submarine sandwiches and side dishes of various accompaniments.

The assembly was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag by Past President, Ms. Diana Pfersick, RNC and the Opening Prayer was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.

The Convention Attendees were welcomed to Gates by the Gates Fire Department President, Mr. Jack Haley and he was thanked by Mr. Glenn E. Klingenberger for his service to the MCVFA (Inc.) in allowing the Convention to gather there for the meeting.

The attending guests of the Association were introduced by Mr. Louie LeonE and their presence was acknowledged by a round of applause for both Mr. J. Haley and the Association Guests.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as to form and content on a motion called for by the Chair…Mr. G. Klingenberger.  1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion passed by voice acclimation. There was no dissent noted.

COMMUNICATIONS AND BILLS:

There was one request for payment supplied to the Secretary which was passed over to the Treasurer for his workflow and future payment on approval of the Directors.  There were no correspondences received at this time to be shared with the attendees.

Treasurer’s Report:            Mr. W. Nichols

The Treasurer stated that the complete Treasurer’s Report was previously emailed to the Directors for their inspection.  There were no questions asked of the Treasurer at this time and a motion was called for by the Chair to acknowledge receipt of the above report.  1st by Mr. K. Fuller.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion to acknowledge the Treasurer’s Report was accepted by voice acclimation.  There was no dissent noted.

 

Audit Committee Report:            Mr. R. Diehl

Mr. R. Diehl reported that his committee had recently reviewed the financial records of the Association and found that the records were well within the accepted form and content expected of the reviewed files and books.

Budget and Finance:            Mr. R. Diehl

Mr. R. Diehl will be having a meeting with Financial Advisor on May 15th to go over some subjects regarding the ongoing financial health of the Association.  There will be more information reported at subsequent meetings of the Board of Directors of the Association.

Investment Advisory:

There will be a meeting called in May of 2013.

Yearbook:

The campaign is to start May 1, 2013, per information from Mr. G. Klingenberger.

Membership:            Mr. W. Nichols

To date, there are 1,327 currently paid members, 41 paid up organizations and 1,310 paid up FASNY Members.

Banquet:            Mr. L. LeonE

The Banquet is to be held at the Green Lantern Party House located in Fairport, NY.  The Honorees are Gerald Pickering, the Police Chief of the Town of Webster, Mr. Royer Pfersick and Ms. Mae Bauer, the Retiring President of the LAMCVFA.  Tickets are $30.00 each and can be purchased from Mr. L. LeonE.  Deadline is April, 22, 2013.

Constitution and Bylaws:

Mr. D. Nesbitt reported that the information previously shared with the Directors has been “Pulled” from circulation for further work and rewording.  More information will be forthcoming as the project continues.

Emergency Medical Service:            Ms. D. Pfersick, RNC

Explorers:            Mr. R. Pfersick

Mr. R. Pfersick discussed the “Youth in the Fire Service” day at the FASNY Convention to be held in Albany, NY in August.  Also discussed was the bus that will be arranged for the attending Explorers and Mr. K. Fuller stated that the Central Avenue Firehouse in Albany can be used by the attendees and their advisors.  The Explorers will be having a dinner at the Burgundy Basin on May 17, 2013 and an Explorer Day at the Henrietta Training Site on May 18, 2013.

Fire Prevention Education/Essay Contest:            Mr. A. Way

Mr. A. Way was thanked by the Chair for the wonderful work he’s done on behalf of this Committee and project, which reaches so many Monroe County students.

Per Mr. R. Chichester…There will be a Health Fair this year.  The date will be October 3, 2013 and the location will be at the Dome Arena located in Henrietta, NY.

All historical material is to go to Mr. A. Sweet for archival processing and retention.

The recently deceased members of the Association had their names called in remembrance and the bell was rung for each to signify the “Final Alarm”.

A short prayer was offered in their name by the Association Chaplain, Mr. R. Pfersick.

Steering Committee:            Mr. D. Sweet

Hospitality:

No report at this time.

Topics:

There will be a NYS Senator at the June Quarterly Convention.

STATE AND REGIONAL REPORTS TO MCVFA (INC.):

FASNY:            Mr. D. Sweet

All merchandise ordered from FASNY must have the sales tax sent with the order unless there is an official tax exempt certificate sent with the order and on file with FASNY.

Recruit New York is slated for the last two weeks of April.

Great Speakers are on deck for the FASNY Convention.  The dates and times are in the Volunteer Firefighter Magazine.

There was a discussion regarding the Past Presidents Dinner at the FASNY Convention.  The usual practice is to pay for one ticket for Directors, Committee Chairpersons.  There being several points to clear up on this matter….the question will be put aside until the next Quarterly Convention to be held in June 2013.

WNYVFA:            Mr. K. Fuller

July 24-27, 2013 are the dates of the Annual Convention, to be held in Caledonia, NY.  The Banquet will be held at the Jones Hall in Caledonia, NY on July 27, 2013.  Churchville will be having a tent at this Convention and all visitors are welcome to stop by for refreshments and fellowship with fellow firefighters.

NCNYVFA:            Mr. G. Burris

June 15, 2013 is the date of their one day Convention.  It will be held in Fairville, NY.

At this point, there was a motion called for to pay the Delegate fees.  1st by Mr. P. Tracy.  2nd by Mr. A. Way.  The motion carried with no discussion by floor vote.

DELEGATE REPORTS:

Chaplainsand Coordinators Office had no reports at this time.

County Fire Chiefs:            Mr. A. Sweet

Their next meeting will be in Hamlin, NY on May 8, 2013.

County Fire Police:

June 13, 2013 is their Quarterly Convention.  Location to be announced.  The seminar will be held in Brockport, NY on May 18, 2013.  This is an all-day affair and lunch will be provided.  The fee is reported to be $20.00 per attendee.

Finger Lakes Burn Association:

No report at this time.

Fire Advisory Board:            Mr. L. Ritz

The report on the previous minutes is the operational report at this time.

Fire Districts:

Will be meeting this evening, (April 25, 2013) in Fishers, NY.

Fire Marshals:

No report at this time.

Firemen’s Home:            Mr. A. Way

Currently there are 70 Members at the Home.

State Fire Police:

Convention will be at Latham, NY on May 2-5, 2013.

BATTALION REPORTS:

There were no Battalion Reports at this meeting noted when called for by the Chair, Mr. G. Klingenberger.

REPORTS OF THE PRESIDENTS:

The President:            Mr. Glenn E. Klingenberger.

Mr. G. Klingenberger thanked all present for his election to serve as President of the Association.

Mr. G. Klingenberger also thanked Mr. L. LeonE for attending the Retirement Dinner held recently to honor Mr. Steve Bowman…Director of Public Safety.

1st Vice President:            Mr. Louie LeonE

Mr. L. LeonE reports that Mr. Charles Bommele is back in the hospital due to medical issues better treated as an in-patient.  At this time visits are not encouraged but cards to the home address would be much appreciated.

2nd Vice President:            Mr. Dale Nesbitt

No report at this time.

OLD BUSINESS:

None brought to the floor by the attendees.

NEW BUSINESS:

There was a discussion regarding “Women in the Fire Service” and a recently held series of meetings dealing with the matter.

PLANNING COMMITTEE:

No report at this time.

PAYING THE FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS OF THE ASSOCIATION:

The Obligations were read by the Treasurer, Mr. W. Nichols.  With no discussion of any of the listed obligations, there was a motion called for by the Chair to pay the outstanding financial obligations of the Association.  1st by Mr. P. Tracy.  2nd by Mr. R. Diehl.  The motion carried by voice acclimation.  There was no dissent noted.

Card to Mr. C. Bommele.

GOOD OF THE ORGANIZATION:

None at this time stated.

With no additional business brought to the floor by the attendees…there was a motion called for by the Chair to adjourn the Quarterly Convention of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc.  1st by Mr. A. Way.  2nd by Mr. R. Chichester.  The vote was by voice acclimation.  There was no dissent noted.

The Closing Benediction was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. R. Pfersick.
