The previously scheduled meeting of the Directors, Committee Chairpersons, Delegates and Representatives of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Inc. was called to order by the Association President, Mr. Glenn E. Klingenberger at 7:03 PM. The meeting was held at the Combined Training Center located at 1190 Scottsville Road, Gates, NY.
The assembly was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and a brief Opening Prayer for Guidance was offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.
With the taking of the roll call it was determined that a quorum existed to conduct all business brought to the floor by the attending Directors.
REPORT OF THE SECRETARY:
There were no communications received at this meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Mr. W. Nichols
Mr. W. Nichols rose to state that the complete financial report was emailed to the Directors previously and asked the assembly if there were any questions or comments regarding the above mentioned information. There were none forthcoming from the attendees and there was a motion called for to acknowledge the receipt of the aforementioned and discussed report. 1st by Mr. K. Fuller. 2nd by Mr. R. Diehl. The motion carried by voice acclimation from the floor. There was no dissent noted.
Audit Committee: Mr. R. Diehl
The committee will be meeting on April 3, 2014.
Budget and Finance: Mr. R. Diehl
All is well – there are no reports to be made at this time.
Investments: Mr. R. Diehl
There will be a meeting scheduled sometime in June of 2014.
Yearbook and Fundraising: Mr. W. Nichols
Mr. W. Nichols rose to state the current figures from the fund drive. Both the gross and net figures were shared with the attendees. There was no discussion noted at this time regarding the progress of the fund drive period.
Membership: Mr. W. Nichols
Mr. W. Nichols states that the membership returns are “Doing Ok”. To date there 837 paid members and 28 organizations listed as active and paid.
The following Committees had no reports for a variety of reasons: Constitution and Bylaws, Explorers, Fire Prevention Education, Historical, Legislative, Public Relations, Steering, Hospitality, Conventions and Campaigns.
The following Delegates had no reports at this time for a variety of reasons: Chaplains, Coordinators Office, County Fire Chiefs, FASNY, Finger Lakes Burn Association, Fire Districts, Fire Marshals, and Safety Officers.
Banquet: Mr. D. Nesbitt
Mr. D. Nesbitt reported on the Banquet progress. The Joint Spring Banquet will be held at The Golden Ponds Party House located at 500 Long Pond Road, (North of Latta Road) on May 10, 2014. Attitude Adjustment Hour will commence at 6:00 PM. Dinner will follow at 7:00 PM. Cost is $30.00 per ticket. (U. S. Funds or Cheque drawn on a U. S. Banque only).
EMS Committee: Ms. D. Pfersick
Ms. D. Pfersick supplied a complete report of the meeting. It is attached to these minutes and is available at the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.
Fire Prevention Essay Contest: Mr. A. Way
Mr. A. Way reports that there is some “Housekeeping to do but it essentially over for this year and it was a great success”.
Nominating Committee: Mr. G. Burris
Mr. G. Burris states there is still a need for directors.
Resolution Committee: Mr. R. Pfersick
Mr. R. Pfersick rose to state the Necrology Report will be ready to be read at the next Quarterly Convention that will be held on April 24, 2014 in Hilton NY.
Topics Committee: Mr. R. Pfersick
Mr. R. Pfersick reported that he is looking into getting someone to come to a future convention to speak on “Crime Scene Investigation” at a fire incident where there may be possible criminal acts, etc.
WNYVFA: Mr. K. Fuller
Their next meeting will be in St. Johnsburg on April 6, 2014. Meeting is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM. Mr. K. Fuller also stated that the group has had two past presidents pass away lately.
NCNYVFA: Mr. G. Burris
Their next meeting is scheduled for April 6, 2014 in Benton NY.
County Fire Chiefs:
Their next meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2014 at the West Webster Fire Department. Time reported is 7:00 PM.
County Fire Police:
The Board of Directors will be meeting at the Combined Training Center on May 1, 2014. Room 103 is the location announced at this time... The next general meeting is reported to be at Mumford, NY on June 12, 2014.
Fire Advisory Board: Mr. L. Ritz
Mr. L. Ritz supplied a complete report of the meeting and it is attached to these minutes and will be available at the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.
Firemen’s Home: Mr. A. Way
Mr. A. Way reports there are 70 members currently at the home. There will be a Memorial Service at the home for deceased members May 10, 2014. Mr. A. Way plans to be there at that time as there is a meeting scheduled for May.
Battalion 3……The Pittsford Banquet is scheduled for April 2nd 2014.
Battalion 4……Mr. G. Boccacci is back from some cardio problems. It’s reported that he had 2 stents implanted.
Chili has a new ambulance and a new Chief EMT.
Battalion 5…..They have been answering a high number of automatic alarms and they did have a couple of fires noted.
REPORTS OF THE PRESIDENTS:
The Association President, Mr. Glenn E. Klingenberger stated that the meeting held all his comments.
The Association 1st Vice President, Mr. Louie LeonE had no report at this time.
The Association 2nd Vice President, Mr. Dale Nesbitt had no report at this time.
Mr. R. Diehl rose to state he is seeking a supplier for new pocket badges. He states he’s optimistic that one of his business contacts may supply them even though the number ordered is not the usual minimum that are made.
Mr. C. Spohr reports that there will be no Fire Police Seminar in May this year. It will be in October and as information becomes available…it will be shared with the Association at a later date.
There was a motion made to pay the financial obligations of the Association. Mr. W. Nichols rose to read the bills that need to be discharged. There was a motion called for to satisfy the bills as listed. 1st by Mr. R. Diehl. 2nd by Ms. D. Pfersick. The motion carried with no discussion by voice acclimation. There was no dissent noted.
Mr. W. Nichols continued…..As Treasurer, he stated….it is both cumbersome and time consuming to have to seek a second authorizing signature on small checks that have to be written on the Association checking account. Mr. W. Nichols put forth the suggestion that all checks under $500.00 written on the Association checking account require only one signature on it to make it a legitimate check for payment of Association obligations.
There was a brief discussion of the matter and it was agreed that all checks under $500.00 dollars shall be authorized for payment with only one signature on it. There was a motion called for to amend the financial protocols to authorize the above suggestion. 1st by Mr. R. Diehl. 2nd by Ms. D. Pfersick. The motion carried by voice acclimation. There was no dissent noted.
SICK AND DISTRESSED:
It was reported that Mr. William Schlegel has passed away. There will be a page set aside in his honor.
GOOD OF THE ORGANIZATION:
Mr. Christopher Dunn is the incoming Vice Chair of the Fire Advisory Board. (Mrs. Colleen Dunn is on the mend from a bout of Adult Pertussis).
With no additional business brought to the floor by the attendees….There was a motion called for to adjourn the meeting. 1st Mr. R. Chichester. 2nd by Mr. R. Diehl. The motion carried by voice acclimation. There was no dissent noted.

Webster: Sunday, March 23, 2014, age 82. A lifelong resident of Webster, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Predeceased by son, Edward he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Schlegel; sister, Jeanne Schlegel; daughters, Debora (Douglas) Kulp, Sherry (Mike) Eckert; grandchildren, Matthew (Karri) Schlegel, Adam (Elaina Vaccaro) Schlegel, Jill Eckert, Andrew (Lisa) Kulp and David (Lisa) Kulp; great-grandchildren, Jaycob, Dylan and Logan Kulp. He is also survived by extended family as well as honorary sister & brother, Donna Winslow & Howard Williams. Bill was a retiree of Rochester Gas and Electric and a Life Member of West Webster Firemen's Association.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Interment at Webster Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to West Webster Firemen's Association.
Bill spent the last 14 months in declining health, expertly taken care of by the caring staff of the Fairport Baptist Home. We all wish to thank the staff of the Fairport Baptist Home for their wonderful care for our loved one who, never in his life, learned to sit still.
