                      MCVFA  Quarterly Meeting Minutes

June 26, 2014

The quarterly convention was held at Henrietta Station #1 and was called to order at 18:30 by President Louie Leone. 

The Pledge of Allegiance was followed with an opening prayer by Chaplain Royer Pfersick.

Bob Chichester welcomed the membership to Henrietta Station #1.

The meeting was suspended for a picnic dinner provided by the host department.

The meeting reconvened at 19:07.

Essay Contest Award Chairman Alan Way presented plaques to Katherine Huang of Park Road Elementary School who received 3rd place for all of the 5th graders of Western NY, Alexandra Erickson from Churchville-Chili who received 4th place for all of 7th graders of Western NY, and Lisa (Yujia) Yang of 12 Corners who received 1st place for all of the 8th graders for Western NY

Present were President Louie Leone, 1st Vice President Dale Nesbitt, 2nd Vice President Gordon Burris, Secretary Diana Pfersick, Treasurer Bill Nichols, Board members Chuck Bommele, Lynd Hicks, Bob Chichester, Dick Diehl, Ken Fuller, David Sweet, Alan Way, Chaplain Royer Pfersick, Sergeant of Arms, Gene Renner, and MCVFA members, AlSweet, Ron Patt, Frank Domuracki, Fred Jentons, Richard DeReupcher, Jim Princehorn, Dave Chase, Tom Scheg, Zip Kraemer,  Clarence Spohr, Paul Bousman, and Dean Marshall.

Also in attendance were Ladies Auxiliary President Donna Bauer Hicks, Vice President Bonnie Sweet, and MCLA members Linda Kuzmicki, Nancy Sweet, Lynn Zarpentine.

Dale Nesbitt introduced honored members present.

Donna Hicks introduced officers of the MCLA and extended an invitation to all members of MCVFA to attend their Pot Luck meeting October 1st  at 6:30 in Rush. Bring a dish to pass and place setting if attending.

 

Topic

MCSD Richard Tantallo gave a presentation on interaction between police and fire at the scene of an incident and scene preservation. Deputy Tantallo is also a volunteer firefighter in Bushnell’s Basin. He cited that 2009 Fire Engineering has tips for working with police at a scene if more information is wanted.. After his talk, he opened the floor for questions.

 

Approval of last meeting minutes

A motion was made by Lynd Hicks, seconded by Ken Fuller and carried to approve.

Report from the Secretary

Diana Pfersick noted that letters went out regarding directorship vacancies. Copies of letters are available for directors to take back to their Battalions also in case leadership in organizations do not present at meetings.

Bill Nichols emailed report to membership.

Louie Leone remarked that submissions are requested for the Ray Emma award.

Budget and Finance

Dick Diehl noted that there will be a committee meeting in September.  He needs information from committee chairs in August if any committee anticipates needing funds. Investment accounts are doing well.

Emergency Medical Services

Diana Pfersick reported that EMS Charts lost the law suit against them.

 

Explorers

Royer Pfersick mentioned that Youth Day at the FASNY Convention will be held on August 21st.

 

Fire Prevention

 

·      Essay Contest

Al Way said that a full report will be provided at the next board meeting.

 

·      Health Fair

Bob Chichester reported that the application was turned in. This year’s event will be at the RIT Inn and Conference Center on September 30 from 9:30 to 4.

  

Historical

Al Sweet brought photographs and information from the archives which were circulated for review by members.

Legislative

Dave Sweet reported that the Assembly and Senate are in adjournment. Truss construction and sparkler bills did pass both houses. There are issues that need attention for next session including VFBL out of jurisdiction response. The FASNY web site has issues listed.

Bill Nichols noted that there are 34 organizations on the rolls.

Resolutions

The following departed members were honored:  Chester Good (Brockport), Walter Meyer (Bushnell’s Basin), James Leathersich (Churchville), Gary Calkins (Gates), Father Steiger (Gates), Charles Nichols (Mumford), George Burandt (North Greece), James Murray (Pittsford), Charles Wooden (Sea Breeze), Charles Gruschow (West Henrietta), and Joseph Reed (Union Hill).

To assure acknowledgement,  Chaplain Pfersick requested that all names be forwarded to him via email prior to meetings at mcvfachaplain1@yahoo.com

 

Steering

Dave Sweet noted that he was re-chosen as chair. They met last week at Barnard FD. Gordon Burris was elected to Vice-Chairman. Larry Ritz was reappointed as secretary and Ken Fuller was reelected to his position. The committee endorsed the following FASNY Committee appointments: Elizabeth Warner (Youth in the Fire Service), Diana Pfersick (EMS), Al Sweet (Youth in the Fire Service).  A motion was made by Dave Sweet, seconded by Al Way and carried for the endorsement of the same.

A motion was made by Dick Diehl, seconded by Zip Kraemer and carried to endorse the steering committee recommendations for the following for declared FASNY positions Peter Cincotta (Trustee), Dennis Eickhoff (Trustee), Walter Geidel (Trustee), Marilyn Schrader (Trustee), Bob McConville (President), Ken Pienkowski (1st VP), Steve Klein (2nd VP), Mike Reid (BOD), Chan Rivera (BOD)

A motion was made by Al Way, seconded by Bob Chichester and carried  to send letters of endorsement for the following declared WNYVFA candidates: Harold Wollaber (President), Darrin Harter (1st VP), Timothy Tyrell (Secretary), Daniel Evans(Asst Secretary), Thomas McLaughlin (Treasurer), Ken Fuller (Trustee).

A motion was made by Al Way, seconded by Ken Fuller and carried to endorse Diana Pfersick as a member of the WNYVFA Steering Committee to replace the vacated position by Bill Nichols. It was proposed that Glenn Klingenberger be a candidate for the Life Safety Committee.  He will be approached for interest.

 

A motion was made by Zip Kraemer, seconded by Royer Pfersick and carried to have the county cover cost of Past Presidents dinner for directors and officers at the FASNY Convention as in past.

 

A motion was made by Dick Diehl, seconded by Dean Marshall and carried to cover cost of Jim Burns’ testimonial tickets for directors and officers.

 

A motion was made by Dick Diehl, seconded by Dean Marshall and carried to give a gift to outgoing Western and FASNY presidents.

 

Gene Renner agreed to sell 50/50 tickets at the Chief’s Equipment Show in August.

 

A copy of the steering committee minutes were given to the secretary.

FASNY

Dave Sweet noted the Convention will be at the Desmond Hotel in Albany in August.  All information is on the FASNY web page.

 

WNYVFA

Ken Fuller noted the Convention is July23-26.

 

NCNYVFA

Gordon Burris reported that the convention was held at Benton FD on June 7th.

 

Chaplain’s Association

County Fire Chiefs

Al Sweet reported that the Equipment show will be August 13th at Barnard Exempt’s at 3 pm. Tickets will be out soon via the fire chiefs.

 

County Fire Police

Clarence Spohr reported the next meeting of the board will be August 7th at the PSTF.

 

EMS Advisory Board

EMS Advisory Board has been meeting during the day when no one from MCVFA can attend.

 

Finger Lakes Burn Association

Louie Leone noted that he invited Paul Schwartzman to the next quarterly.

 

Fire Advisory Board

Firemen’s Home

Al Way noted there are 68 members at the home. The administrator has resigned and an interim is in place. He will be traveling to the home again July 8th and 9th.  The softball tournament is the 1st weekend in August.

BATTALION REPORTS

 

1st Battalion

2nd Battalion

Al Way noted a new truck will be arriving in Brockport in August.

 

3rd Battalion

4th Battalion

Ken Fuller reported that there was a major house fire due to a lightning strike.  The house was 1000 feet off the road and required relay to reach and extinguish.

 

5th Battalion

Royer Pfersick noted that the Rush Carnival is coming up July 10-12.  Dick Diehl noted Henrietta had a couple of fires.

 

REPORTS OF PRESIDENTS

 

President

Louie Leone noted that the shirts that were ordered will be available after the meeting.

 

1st Vice President

2nd Vice President

Gordy Burris reported that $63 was collected for the wounded warrior project by attendees at this meeting.

 

OLD BUSINESS

Dick Diehl wanted to clarify that $0 was budgeted in the FASNY account. The money is in the 900 series of the budget.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Dave Sweet made a motion for delegate monies for the convention. This was seconded by Dick Diehl and carried.

 

BILLS

A motion was made by Dick Diehl, seconded by Al Way and carried to pay the bills which included $200 to Henrietta #1 for hosting this meeting, $1620 to FASNY for dues, $15 to Cardmember services for the Call ‘em all phone service, and $286 for shirts.

 

Sick and Distressed

None

 

Good of Organization

Gene Renner noted that $24 went to the treasurer from the 50/50 drawing from this meeting.

The next Quarterly Convention meeting will be at Barnard Exempts on October 23rd

 

A Closing Prayer was offered by Chaplain Royer Pfersick.
