The scheduled Quarterly Convention of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. was called to order by the President, Mr. Alan C. Way at 7:30 PM following a delicious dinner prepared by the host company, The Gates Fire Department (House 2), Chef William Montagno and his merry Sous-Chefs. The fare was the famous (or infamous) “Gates Plate”.

The assembly was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag by the Master-At-Arms, Mr. Gordon Burris and the Opening Invocation was offered by the Acting Association Chaplain, Mr. Donald H. Fox.

With the taking of the roll call it was determined that a quorum existed to conduct all business brought to the floor by the attending Members, Delegates and Committee Chairpersons.

The Host Company then welcomed the Convention Attendees.

The Association 2nd Vice President, Diana Pfersick then thanked the Host Company and introduced the attending Association Guests.

The Convention attendees were then addressed by Chief Floyd Madison of the Rochester Fire Department. The theme of his remarks dealt with the contribution of the Volunteer Fire Service to the “Body Politic” and their relations with the paid branch of the Fire Service. His remarks were on point and well received by the attendees.

The minutes of the previous meetings were approved with no corrections or additions on a motion called for by the Chair. 1st by Mr. S. Giuliano. 2nd by Mr. F. Skelton. There was no discussion and the motion was approved by voice vote.

BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS:
There were two communications and they were read to the attendees and passed on to the appropriate persons for their action.
There were no bills presented at this time.

Treasurer’s Report: Mr. J. Princehorn
Mr. J. Princehorn gave a complete report of the Association finances and numbers to the attendees. A copy of the Treasurer’s report is part of the “Official Minutes” and is available for inspection by any member by contacting any member of the Executive Board.
The Treasurer’s Report was accepted with no discussion by way of a motion called for by the Chair. 1st by Mr. R. Maid. 2nd by Mr. M. Smith.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
The following Committees had no report at this time for a variety of reasons: Audit, Banquet, Budget and Finance, Constitution and Bylaws, Drills and Officials, Fire Prevention, Safety Trailer, Hospitality Room, Public Relations, Siren, Special Events, Topics, and Special Committees #1 and #2.
(The Burn Walk is to be held June 6, 2006).

Emergency Medical Service: Ms. D. Pfersick RN.
The new CPR Procedures are now being used.

Explorers: Mr. W. Montagno
The Explorers are now taking classes at the Barnard Fire Department every Wednesday. This training will be taken until May 31, 2006 and it is part of the Fire Fighter 1 Course.

Fire Prevention Education: Mr. R. Emma
In 2007 the Expo may be held at St. John Fisher College. The projected date is May 25, 2007.

Fire Prevention Essay Contest: Mr. J. Hendrickson

Mr. J. Hendrickson read into the record the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association Winners. A copy is attached to these minutes and is posted on the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.

Mr. D. Fox discussed the Monroe County Essay Contest. A copy of his report is attached to these minutes and is posted on the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.

Historical: Mr. A. Sweet
Mr. A. Sweet made the announcement that any item of historical interest should be given to him for recording and possible display or future use by the Association.

Legislative: Mr. W. Nichols

Membership: Mr. W. Nichols
There are 39 Associations and 39 Delegates present and 72 Ballots can be cast in the election.

Nominating: Mr. P. Tracy
The slate of candidates and the results of the election are attached to these minutes and can be accessed at the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.

Resolution: Mr. D. Fox
Mr. D. Fox read into the record the deceased members and the bell was rung as a symbol of their “Final Alarm”. A short prayer was offered by the Association Acting Chaplain, Mr. Donald H. Fox.

Steering Committee: Mr. D. Fox

Transportation: Mr. D. Fox
Mr. D. Sweet discussed a possible bus trip to the Firemen’s Home in conjunction with the fall Legislative Conference.

Yearbook:

REPORTS OF REPRESENTATIVES AND DELEGATES:
June 25, 2006 will see a 100 mile charity ride by the “Red Knights” to benefit the Burn Camp.

County Fire Chiefs: Mr. A. Sweet
The Equipment Seminar will be held August 9, 2006 at Logan’s Party House. Time reported for dinner is between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20.00 each.
The next meeting of the Chiefs will be at Brockport Fire Department on May 10, 2006, followed by one on June 14, 2006 in Penfield at the Penfield Fire Department.

Fire Districts had no report at this time.

Fire Marshals: Mr. C. Dunn
The Fire Marshals will be having a seminar in Mid May. The date, time and location can be accessed by emailing Mr. C. Dunn.

County Fire Police: Mr. K. Fuller
On May 13, 2006 there will be a Fire Police Seminar held at The Brockport Middle School. The cost is $15.00 for each attendee and breakfast and dinner will be provided.
The State Fire Police Convention will be held next week in Utica NY.
The next meeting will be held in East Rochester May 11, 2006.

NCNYVFA:
The Convention will be held in Fairville, June 16-17, 2006. The banquet will be on the Friday of the Convention at the Quality Inn. A copy of the report is attached to these minutes and is posted on the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.

WNYVFA: Mr. K. Fuller

Chaplains and Coordinators Office had no report at this time.

FASNY: Mr. D. Sweet
Mr. D. Sweet discussed the upcoming Fall Legislative Conference and the efforts underway to update the FASNY web site.

Firemen’s Home: Mr. D. Schultz
Barnard has a new member at the home. The county residents, other than Mike Poppoon are doing well. Mike Poppoon is now receiving Hospice Care.
Mr. Schultz discussed Ms. Ella Ernst and her 100th Birthday. She’s doing remarkably well.
The dedication is still on for October 21, 2006.

BATTALION REPORTS:
1st Battalion:
No Report.
2nd Battalion:
Lakeshore had a house destroyed due to the actions of an alleged intoxicated auto operator.
Greece Ridge had a fatal house fire on Haywood Drive.
3rd Battalion:
No Report.
4th Battalion:
No Report.
5th Battalion:
No Report.

OLD BUSINESS:
The new emblem was brought to the attention of the attendees. The new emblem was designed by Mr. Christopher Dunn and can be viewed at the Association web site www.mcvfa.com.

NEW BUSINESS:
Cash advance for the delegates was authorized on a motion requested by Mr. D. Sweet. 1st by Mr. D. Sweet. 2nd by Mr. L. Hicks.

REPORT OF THE OFFICERS:
The President: Mr. Alan C. Way.
Mr. A. Way reported on the party held for Ms. Ella Ernst at the Firemen’s Home.
Mr. A. Way also thanked the Association-At-Large for the assistance given to him throughout his term as Association President.
The 1st Vice President: Mr. Lawrence A. Ritz
No report at this time.
2nd Vice President: Ms. Diana Pfersick, RN
No report at this time.

GOOD AND WELFARE:
Mr. R. Diehl discussed the “Anniversary” Fire Trucks Henrietta is offering for sale as part of their upcoming birthday events. It will be a collector’s item and is offered at $35.00. He further reported that there will be only 480 made with the Henrietta name and logo on them.

CLIFTON WILL BE HOSTING THEIR ANNUAL ROAST BEEF DINNER ON APRIL 29, 2006. COST WILL BE $7.50 PER TICKET. (A MUST ATTEND!!)

With no additional business brought to the floor a motion was called for to adjourn the Quarterly Convention. 1st by Mr. J. Carberry. 2nd by Mr. R. Maid. Passed by voice vote.

The Closing Benediction was offered by the Association Acting Chaplain, Mr. Donald H. Fox.
