August 2005 WNYVFA Report
23 Sep 2005

The Annual Convention was held in St. Johnsburg on July 27 to July 30, 2005. It was a very successful Convention with good participation at all events.

In my capacity as Trustee, I attended the audit of the books on July 27th, all business meetings of the Convention, the Memorial Service and awards ceremonies on the 28th and 29th, and the Banquet for President Pilecki on the 30th.

Monroe County got recognition this year for having Churchville chosen as "Firemen of the Year", Chili Fire Department winning the EMS Competition, and myself winning the Fire Police Skills Competition. The Rush Fire Department Department received a Certificate of Excellence for thir entry in the Fireman of the Year Award also.

The audit conducted found all financial books to be in order, with very few questions or problems. There is some talk about revamping the system on how dues are paid to the association, and this is being addressed. There were 5 of 10 Trustees who attended the audit.

A proposed by-law change was voted on concerning the Steering Committtee and passed by the members present. I maintain that his by-law is not legal, and am working with other concerned members on a motion to declare it null and void due to improper protocol in the presentation and have the original by-law re-instated if this is agreeable to the County Board.

All positions for officers of the Association ran unopposed and were accepted by voice vote of the members. There is a new Assistant Secretary to help Secretary Flynn as the former Assistant resigned. The members elected Eric Bradshaw of Albion, Orleans County as Second Vice President with plans of holding the Convention in Albion in 2008.

Churchville Fire Department thanks Monroe County for their help at this years convention. I hope that you feel that this venture was worth the effort, and would consider a similar relationship for the 2006 Convention to be held in Niagara County again. Our County members who attended, appreciated a place where they knew that their needs could be met after meetings, a home away from home, so to speak. As Western is coming to Monroe County in 2007, with Forrest Skelton as President, we are hoping to do some more promoting next year and are all ready making plans to do so. The pig roast that we sponsored came off very well with several officers, and past officers, or Western, South Western, Northern Central and FASNY enjoying our hospitality, along with the general membership. In all, over 50 people enjoyed an excellent dinner.

The Recognition Banquet for President Pilecki held July 30, was attended by over 100 people. The Installation of 2006 Western Officers was also done at this banquet. The oath of office was given by FASNY 2nd Vice President Mike Wutz.

The next quarterly meeting will be September 11, 2005 at St. Johnsburg and our new President Bruce Isaman will be presiding. The annual legislative clearing conference will be held the same day.
