2008 FASNY Convention>
January 15, 2007 Convention Committee Meeting
15 Jan 2007

General Chairman Donald Fox called the first meeting of the 2008 FASNY Convention Committee to order at 7:40 PM at the Fairport Fire House #1 on January 15, 2007.

Members present were Don Fox, Barry Sens, Edward VerWeire, Chris Dunn, Carl Veltri, Bill Nichols, Bonnie Sweet, Mae Bauer, Karen Riordan, David Sweet and Alan Way.

Chairman Fox passed out the list of Committees as they stand as of tonight’s meetings.  This list is only of the Chairperson(s) of each committee.  It will be up to each Chairperson to assemble their committee.

Chairman Fox announced that Senator Robach was able to secure a $10,000.00 grant for advertising, promotional and clerical activities connected to the convention.  All requests for funds will go through Don or Carl.  NO funds will be spent without their approval due to the checks on Grants being conducted by the State Attorney General.  Other funding assistance is being pursued including assistance from Monroe County.  FASNY will be advancing us $3500.00 for Convention expenses.

The Convention Headquarters will be the Riverside Clarion for the members of FASNY with LAFASNY using the Hyatt.  The Crown Plaza will be used as the backup since they came in $10.00 higher than the other two.

There was a general discussion for an activity for the first night with one idea a Canal Cruise.  There was no final decision made and anyone with an idea is to present it to Chairman Fox.

It has been decided that all correspondence going out from the Committee must have “Come to Rochester in 2008” on it both on the stationary and the envelopes.

The members of the Monroe County Ladies Auxiliary present went over their needs.  It was mentioned that the same person they worked with at the Crown Plaza in 2001 is now at the Hyatt.  Most Officers and members will be arriving either on Sunday or Monday with the Installation of 2008-2009 officers to be held on Thursday night.

It was announced that that week will be the 150th anniversary of the Rochester Protectives.  Larry and some of the members have been working very hard in forming a color guard.  It has been decided to use them for the Opening Ceremony and possibly at other times during the convention.

There is a very good chance that the Visitors Association will be giving us a Power Point program to be used this year in Erie County.  We will look into our own equipment to use to show the program during the week at the Monroe County Registration table.

Don asked everyone to think of an idea of a theme.  Any logo will come from what is decided.

Don asked all present to give him their home address, phone number and e-mail address so minutes and notices can be sent out.  Alan Way will be working on a master list and will present it to Chairman Fox for corrections.

The next meeting will be at Fairport #1 on February 27th at 7:30 PM.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Alan C. Way, Committee Secretary
