The November 13, 2007 meeting of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association 2008 Convention Committee was called to order at @ 7:30 PM by Chairman Fox. It was announced that Bill Nichols and David Sweet would assume Don’s duties until Don recuperates from his upcoming surgery. Everyone present wished Don the very best.
The first order of business was a discussion of the Program Book. David Sweet will take chairmanship of the committee assisted by Gene Renner. Prices for certain pages were discussed and also it was announced who would do the solicitation for this year. We will be going through Scott Dean’s company. All funds collected will be sent to Jim Princehorn in whatever manner he decides. The drive will be from November 19th until May 15th. Letters for out of County will be sent out after the first of the year. Dave will request mailing labels on his next trip to Albany.
Ken Newton is investigating a printer to do Committee work. Don is investigating another grant with the from the New York State Visitor’s Association for postage.
Arrangements: David Sweet – Assisted by Lynn Mack
FASNY had a question on backup mikes and meeting rooms. Dave was given the name of a contact person at the hotel for all room arrangements.
Don has put a formal request into the County for radios to be used at the convention.
Don is working on an organ. The normal source is no longer in business. We will look into another source.
The hotel will assist in getting a copier.
There are a number of meeting rooms on the third floor that can be used for Hospitality Rooms. Bill will handle this through Housing.
Exhibits: Barry Sens – Absent – Don and others have a large number of business cards to pass on to him. Word is he has had some health problems but it is not confirmed.
All reservations in regards to FASNY events (Installation Dinner) will go through FASNY with one check going to the County.
Golf Tournament: David Schultz. The tournament will be on Tuesday at Eagle Vale.
Tuesday Night Special Event: There will be a German Night held at the Barnard Exempts. There will be more information to follow.
The Convention will start on Wednesday morning and there will be a Firemen’s Band Concert on Wednesday evening.
It was discussed on whether to have two nights of General Hospitality Rooms. The idea of having a Casino Night on Wednesday night was brought up and accepted by all. Alan Way will Chair this committee. The outfit in Henrietta will be contacted to see if they are available. All Committee members will assist in getting Auction Prizes. High Falls Brewery will be contacted to see if they would be interested in coming in and supplying all the liquid refreshments.
Shirts: Karen Riordan – Karen presented a style she recommended at a cost of $23.00 per shirt with no setup fee from Stitch Works on Culver Parkway. She will have size and color samples at the next meeting at which time the color will be selected.
The Theme of the Convention was decided to be “Volunteering to Protect and Educate”
Memorial Service: - no report since a representative was not present.
Ways & Means: Larry Ritz – It was reported that we had a profit of $270.00 after deducting the cost of prizes and tickets. It was decided to do the same again since we have plenty of tickets left. Larry will contact the same person for a second camera.
There was a discussion of fund-raiser ideas for the ladies.
Al Way will receive the reservations for the General Hospitality Room.
The next meeting will be December 12, 2007 at Penfield #1 @ 7:30PM
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM
