Northern Central N.Y. Volunteer Firemen’s Assoc. Quarterly meeting 1/15/2012

1:00 pm Convention and Fund raising meeting: We discussed the convention’s agenda guest speaker and possibility of attending the Mendon F.D. parade after the meeting. It was also decided that Northern would raffle a side of beef and gasoline credits certificates as fund raisers.

2:00 pm regular meeting- The 2013 convention will be a one day event on June 15^th in Fairville, N.Y.

I was asked to write a binding letter that day assuring M.C.V.F.M.A. would stand behind their promise to host the 2012 northern central Convention. I did submit a letter at this meeting.

The Northern Banquet will be in October at this event all firematic awards will be awarded then.

The 2012 FASNY convention will be in Onondaga County this year. The dates are August 14-17 in Liverpool, N. Y.

Legislation David Violas- there are 10 items being pursued. He said to check the FASNY website for details of possible ‘action.’ They will show up as items hi-lighted in blue. David also stated Senator Nozzolio is supportive of the volunteers and their efforts to get the items passed. Mr. Violas suggested checking out the Congressional Fire Service Institute. Their website is www.cfsi.org  check on their mission and issues they address.

Danger alert: Solar panels turned off at an incident still have the contained power to injure untrained firefighters- treat as you would with live wires.

Ken Pienkowski reported that since the FASNY dues increase they have lost 4 companies and gained 11 new departments.

FASNY’s scholarship grant has been taken advantage by 111 volunteers so far. February 1 is the deadline registration date for the second semester.

April 21&22 is department open house weekend for recruiting.

There has been only one application sent to FASNY for firefighter of the year.
