NORTHERN CENTRAL CONVENTION JUNE 8 & 9, 2007
NEWARK, NEW YORK
This was the 112th Northern Central Convention and the 13th held in Newark.

Mr. Carl Veltri gave an informative 2% report..
Richard Webster gave a report on death benefit changes for firefighters dieing on the way or returning from calls. Senator Schumer’s efforts are the force behind the changes. All previously denied claims will also be reviewed.
Next years convention will be on June 13 & 14 in Himrod near Penn Yann in Yates County. The convention will be held at the Showboat Motel on Seneca Lake. The banquet will be informal consisting of a chicken and rib barbeque held under a tent.
The September meeting will be in Ovid on September 23,2007.
Northern Centrals 2008 meetings will be held in: January Menoa F.D. Onondaga County, April Yates County, June Himrod, September Dresden.
54 men & 28 ladies attended this meeting.
Friday afternoon:
Emergency generator danger. A speaker explained the dangers of commercial business’s with emergency generator back-ups. Places having generator backup include schools, Wegman stores ,hospitals, firehouses etc. Generators come in all sizes, colors and can even be found in basements. They stressed the importance of installing signage warning emergency responders of a generator installation and there locations.
There was also a speaker on fire police protective equipment.
The MCVFA held a hospitality room showing support for President Emma and candidate Bill Nichols for 2nd Vice President of FASNY.
The banquet was held Friday evening. There were four nominees for firefighter of the year. The award went to Jim LeMay from the Walworth Fire Department. Firefighter Lemay rescued a man and women from a fully involved house before his fire company arrived , seconds after the rescue the building exploded.
Saturday:
The Memorial service was held. One hundred and ninety six deceased men and women answered their last call.Seventy six people attended the service.
Elections were held. Mr. Ray Emma is the new president although he could not attend the convention due to illness .
Charles Leach beat Frank Colletti in the race for first vice-president. Floyd Johnson is second vice president.
Steve Little gave an update on the regulations in the works for Explorer’s training and their use at fire scenes. He stated these new regulations were more important then ever due to recent happenings in Monroe County. Past President Frank Clark spoke on the issue and is disappointed in the communications with state law makers supporting this ruling which is being held up in the state senate.
Dave Sweet requested a committee be set up to look into having a one day Northern Central Convention.
Dave Sweet and Gordon Burris were appointed trustee director and director.
