Northern Central Firemen's Association Quarterly Meeting

1:00 PM: A special meeting was held and all items Northern Central will support in Albany were reviewed and accepted. Mr. Bill Schlegel asked athat three reviewed items be amended. These items are the payment for fire department ambulance calls, youth on fire-ground regulations and correction of Wicks Law distribution of funds in Upstate New York. This will be done later.
Central NY delegate Jean Skinner read a bill from Central NY asking for the State to offer to volunteers without dependable transportation, vehicles though State Bid purchasing. After lengthy discussion the bill was tabled.
2:00 PM: Michael R. Caron, who has been a volunteer fireman fir twenty years and is also an insurance agent. He spoke on volunteer injury benefits and also on investments and savings. Not many young people want to start saving for retirement but a little invested weekly at theis age will grow larger than a lot invested at an older age.
2:45 PM: Northern Central Convention will be on June 6 and 7, 2008 at the Showboat motel and the parade will be in Penn Yan.
There are 2290 members in Northern Central in good standing.
Gorden Snider reported that a Mr. David Blair from Onondaga County is running for trustee for the Home on the Hudson in 2008.
President Emma has set up a fund raising committee and he also asked the convention committee too invesitigate the feasibility of a one day convention.
FASNY Director Dave Sweet, reported that GEICO Insurance refuses a volunteer, an auto insurance policy, because he used his car to answer calls. In the past the same insurance company refused a home owner fire insurance in a colunteer protected district, also on Long Island. The new incident will also be corrected.
Mr. Sweet reported the dedication weekend for the new Firemen's Home was a sucess. There was an estimated two thousand in attendance. A combined total of ten thousand hots and Hamburgers were eaten.
Mr. Sweet urged all to attend the fall legislative meeting in Albany at the Turf Inn.
This years Firefighter Winter Games will be held in Cortland at Greek Peek. It will be much more affordable than last years held in the North.
Mr. Sweet reminded everyone that the 2008 FASNY convention is in Rochester sponsored by the MCVFA. Headquarters will be at the Clarion and Ladies at the Hyatt. Mr. Nichols iss the housing chairman.
Mr. Nichols will have a very busy summer. He is running for 2nd Vice President of FASNY.
Onondaga County will host the 2008 and 2009 State Fire Police Convention. These changes were made due to the lack of convention facilities in the original locations offered.
4:10 PM meeting ended. 67 Members were in attendance.
