EMS Update
4 May 2008
Large Events and EMS - Our area plays host to many large events, from golfing, festivals, sporting activities to many others. To insure the safety of all those involved and all those enjoying them, there are very specific relegations which govern these activities, as they relate to Public Health and EMS.
Thank you in advance for your help in staffing and insuring the safety of these exciting events that are planned.
New York State REHAB Class - I am sorry to report that we have had to postpone the REHAB class originally scheduled for May 9 and 10th at the PSTF. This change is due to concerns with scheduling and coordination of the event and the Monroe County Fire/EMS Bureau Training staff is working to get this class rescheduled for a future date.
Mutual Aid - At this weeks EMS Administrators meeting, the topic of Mutual Aid was discussed extensively. The outcome is not new, but a reaffirmation of the existing policies in place. ALL Agencies will handle their requests for Mutual Aid thru the 911 Dispatcher, who then will handle the Dispatch, sending the appropriate unit based on the run card data. Agencies are still encouraged to call "prior" to Emergency Calls to see the status of neighboring agencies resources, but not to do this during calls, as it delays the process of providing the patient the best and fastest care. This policy applies for both Monroe County and out of County requests for services.
EMS Week - Next week there will be a complete listing of Open Houses and activities associated with EMS Week - May 18 thru 24th. If you are having a activity, please send information so you can be included on this list in this and other communication methods.
Mothers Day - Remember who was the most important woman in your life for many years
Community Involvement - A Special Thank You to all the Emergency Service Personnel and Agencies that are putting on the presentations for our High School/College Students to remind them of the dangers on impaired driving. The next months provide a growing challenge for both parents and providers alike to insure that all these Young Adults come home safe from wherever they are.
Calendar:
May 6 - National Nurses Week
May 11 - Mothers Day
May 18 - National EMS week
May 28 - EMS Administrators - ERVAC
