J.            PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR – D. MOORE

·       A letter has gone out from County Executive Maggie Brooks to the fire chiefs and commissioners inviting them to a meeting in March regarding the radio project.

·       Thank you to all who have worked on the radio project subcommittees.

·       Public Safety has moved forward on the new CAD System (9-1-1)

K.            FIRE & EMS COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE – T. SANTILLO

·       Attended the January meeting with nothing new to report.

L.            FIRE COORDINATORS REPORT – S. DeROSA

·      The American Red Cross has initiated a regional smoke detector program for the Monroe County area with the goal of placing 1,000 smoke detectors into the region, free of charge. The information has been disseminated to the County Companies and the Fire Bureau has agreed to be the primary point for the County fire agencies. Your fire chiefs have all of the information.

·      The Fire Marshals Association and Fire Bureau are actively working on a solution to flagging new lightweight truss construction into the CAD System at 9-1-1. More details will follow.

·      The Operations Sub-Committee for the Trunked Radio System continues to work towards a standardized and effective communications system for fire and EMS when the system comes on line. I’ll be presenting our progress to the County Fire Chiefs in May.

·      The 2015 Fire Directory is completed and distributed to the fire chiefs. We’ll be merging the EMS Directory and resending it out accordingly.

·      A reminder the next Fire and EMS Communications Board Meeting is this Thursday, March 19, 2015, 5 PM at the PSTF.

·      The next Executive Fire Chiefs Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, 2015, 7 PM at the PSTF.

·      The County Fire Investigation Unit will be hiring 2 additional part time fire investigators in the near future. These hires will replace our current vacancies and get the Unit back to full operating capacity. Job postings will be sent to all of the fire agencies.

·      The Tactical Unit for the Rochester Police Department is selling stickers on behalf of Daryl Pierson. 100% of the proceeds from sales will be put into an education fund for his children.  The stickers are $5 each and can be purchased through the office.

·      The Regional Fire Administrators Conference is this Thursday and Friday at the State Fire Academy. Agenda items include crude oil transporting, IMT, mutual aid and several break-out sessions. I’ll distribute all relevant information when I return.

·      While I’m certain that Vice Chair Dunn will bring this up under the Fire Marshals Association report I do wish to express the fire side’s support for the drafting of a letter from this Board to the County Legislature in support of not adopting local legislation to store, sell or purchase fireworks in Monroe County. The County Fire Chiefs Association, at their last meeting, voted to send a letter against this to the Legislature.

·      Two Recruit Firefighter-I classes, under the revised curriculum, are well underway and working out well. Graduation is anticipated for late-May timeframe.

·      I’d like to thank the Battalion 3 Line Officers and Deputy Fire Coordinators Aaron Hiller and Tom Santillo for hosting a great training session with Chief Dave Dodson who presented his Reading Smoke training program 2 weeks ago.

            HazMat Report – S. SCHALABBA

·      The Monroe County Hazardous Materials Response Team (MCHMRT) assisted with 1 Level 0 incident which involved a spill at a gas station in Henrietta.

·      We’ve also been staying current with information associated with the three (3) recent crude oil train derailments which occurred in Fayette County, WV,  Galena, IL, and Ontario, Canada.   The NYS Fire Coordinator’s Association will also be provided an update on this topic at their upcoming meeting scheduled for March 19 and 20 which will be attended by Fire Coordinator DeRosa.

·      The next regularly scheduled training date for the MCHMRT is March 26th at the PSTF, 7pm.  This will be a scenario based exercise designed to give our members time operating in Level A chemical protective clothing.

·      The Fire Bureau did complete a project to integrate the community’s Tier II data into an incident support software program for HazMat called PEAC.

·      The Special Operations Unit continues to be busy with training and team development activities.  We recently participated in the NYS Association of Fire Chief’s Technical Rescue Leadership Forum and also have several members planning to attend the upcoming Technical Rescue Conference sponsored at the NYS Fire Academy on March 28th.

·       Census of the Home stands at 85 with the death of Steve Budafocco. The Board has increased the max. to 86. We have already been informed there are a number of applications for us to address when we come down March 12th. They have been hit with snow just like most of New York State. Art Proper , our new Administrator reported that on a couple of the worse days he had come in early to help with the beds or where ever needed. He was pleasantly surprised that not only did everyone scheduled show up but a number of the staff that were off had called to say they were available if needed. He is getting used to the people we have on staff at the Home (Art came from a County facility)> It was reported to us this past weekend that some of the staff either stayed at the Home or rented a room at a local hotel to be near work. In doing the reviews Art Proper could not believe the number of the staff that had 40 plus years of service. He found anyone with 10 or 15 years or less is considered a new person.

·       Bernie Boulio (FASNY past president) had requested to be allowed to return to the Home (Bernie had left when he found the cancer had returned). He has been admitted and is very happy!

·       I am happy to report that all is very good at the Home. As I have reported in the past if anyone ahs books (good ones), DVD’s, CD’s, MP3 players (for Alzheimer) or any Department shirts or hats they want to send down let me know as they are always welcome. Our next meeting is May 8th & 9th.

·       Discussed plaquarding (truss construction). Among ideas discussed was having 9-1-1 notified to alert agencies (process still being worked out).

·       Would like letters of support regarding the international residential codes sprinkler provisions.

·       Discussed changes to the Penal Law regarding legalizing the selling of sparklers in our county. All agree that they do not want this change. Will forward to Joint Fire Leadership for support.
