January 23, 2013
The regularly scheduled workshop meeting of the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc. Directors was called to order by the Association President, Mr. Glenn Klingenberger at 7:05 PM. The meeting was held at the Combined Training Center located at 1190 Scottsville Road, Rochester, NY.
The assembly recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and there was a short prayer for guidance offered by the Association Chaplain, Mr. Royer Pfersick.
With the taking of the roll call…it was determined that there was not a quorum present to conduct any business brought to the floor for official procedures and or discussion.
There followed several minutes of discussion on the way to proceed as the President and Chair of the meeting stated that there was a great deal of material to cover plus there was the guest who was invited to discuss the fund raising project.
At this point the guest, Mr. Don Warburton was asked to step outside while there was a discussion by the Directors on the Quorum Call situation. There were several ideas advanced by several attendees but all were rejected following discussions of the current in-place bylaws that call for a quorum number as 12. There were in fact 10 present eligible to be included in the official count. It was then decided to have a period of unofficial discussions of the material that the President had stated…must be discussed.
Mr. Warburton was again asked to return to the meeting where he gave an outline of his operation…Support Services of New York. Mr. Warburton has many clients of note and has a good reputation within the groups he represents. Some of these include the American Legion, the WNYVFA and several Police Benevolent Groups.
The Directors had a positive series of questions and answers following the presentation of Mr. Warburton.
There will be discussions at the up coming Quarterly Convention regarding the question.
The Treasurer’s Report, although mailed to the Directors previously, could not be acted on at this meeting and will be pended to the up-coming Quarterly Convention to be held on January 31, 2013, at the Combined Training Center.
The President, Mr. Glenn Klingenberger reports that he has had discussions with an attorney regarding the possibility of retaining him to review the bylaws that have been languishing in one place or situation for some time now. The question will be discussed again at the up-coming Quarterly Convention.
Mr. Glenn Klingenberger stated that he had done some sorting and packing relief supplies at the Sea Breeze Fire House on behalf of the persons affected by the Super Storm Sandy. He stated that the effort was much appreciated by the Sea Breeze Fire Department.
There was a discussion of the dates of the 2013 meetings of the Association. There will be copies for the membership available at the up-coming Quarterly Convention.
The April 25th Quarterly Convention will be at the Gates Fire Department Facility (#1) on Chili Ave.
Mr. Glenn Klingenberger has been exploring a new printing concern to do the Essay Contest Printing. The reported prices are almost even for the work being done by the current printer that Mr. A. Way has been using.
There was a discussion involving the current bylaws project. Mr. D. Nesbitt states the project with 2 readings to the members will be done in 6 months.
There then was a discussion of folders to be given at all recruits’ graduations informing them of who the Association is and what the functions of the Association are as they pertain to them as firefighters. This will take some planning and research to finally decide on the material to be put in this folder.
In this vein… Mr. Louie LeonE gave a brief presentation on a booklet he has been working on outlining the Who, What and Why of the Association, the names of the contact members, etc. The booklet was received favorably by the Directors. The set up charge would be $200.00 and printing is a yet to be determined price. There will be further discussions at the Quarterly Convention of January 31, 2013.
Mr. Glenn Klingenberger then discussed the Memorial Gift to the West Webster Fire Department and the resulting happenings at the Funeral Services he attended along with several other members of the Association.
The letter from the West Webster Fire Department thanking the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Inc. for the gift check was read by the Secretary and will be re-read at the Quarterly Convention.
The President went on to relate an incident at the West Webster Fire House that seems to sum up the entire episode as so terribly, terribly sad. Basically…When all is considered under such trying circumstances… “We done good”.
Mr. A. Way supplied a report from the home that will be given at the next Quarterly Convention. He also read to the members this years’ “Gem Essay”. It was nice to hear that the kids are at least thinking Fire Safety.
**** There will be a short meeting of the Directors preceding the January 31, 2013 Quarterly Convention at the Training Center. Directors are requested to be there at 6:15PM (Rm. 117)
Louie LeonE will be picking up the Association Traveling Trophy for re-awarding this years’ winning school effort.
With no additional items to be discussed mentioned by anyone, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM
