Board of Directors Meeting Minutes


August 27, 2014



The meeting was called to order at 1900 by President Louie Leone.

The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by an opening prayer led by Chaplain Royer Pfersick.             

Members present were President Louie Leone, 1st Vice President Dale Nesbitt, 2nd Vice President Gordon Burris, Secretary Diana Pfersick, Treasurer William Nichols, Jr. Past President Glenn Klingenberger, Board Members Charles Bommele, Alan Way, Lynd Hicks, Richard Diehl, Robert Chichester, Ken Fuller, and Gary Bpoccacci. Also present were Chaplain Royer Pfersick, Al Sweet, Larry Ritz, Christopher Dunn, and Clarence Spohr.

Excused was Director Dave Sweet.

A motion was made by Al Way, seconded by Ken Fuller and carried to approve the minutes of the June meeting.

Treasurer’s Report

Bill Nichols said a full report will be emailed to membership after September 1st.


Committee Reports


Audit Committee

No report. A question was raised by Dick Diehl asking if there was any conflict of interest with Gordy Burris being on the committee. Consensus was that it was OK.



Louie Leone noted that he has not received any nominations for the Ray Emma Award.

Budget and Finance

Dick Diehl noted that there will be a committee meeting at Henrietta #1 on September 10th at 7 PM.  He also requested that Chris Dunn be added to the committee list.


Constitution and By-Laws

No report.  Dale Nesbitt requested committee members meet briefly after this meeting.


Emergency Medical Services

Diana Pfersick noted that Vital Signs will be held in Rochester on October 25th-26th in Rochester.



Al Sweet noted that the Youth Day at the FASNY convention had 45 youth participate.  There was a good program with Engine Company Operations, Drafting, Hoseline work, Maze work and a Propane Demo. Almost all returned to the convention for the 3 PM seminar.


Fire Prevention


   Essay Contest

   Al Way said he has all the info to go to the schools. He requested that the directors meet him   at his car after the meeting to pick up for distribution to schools.


   Health Fair

   Robert Chichester reported will be at the RIT Inn and Conference Center on September 30th .



Al Sweet said he was asked by the ladies auxiliary to do a presentation on the history of MCVFA.


Hospitality Room

No report



Dick Diehl said he is getting statements and investments are doing well.



Al Way noted that sprinkler bill was signed.



Bill Nichols reported that there are currently 35 paid organizations, 1086 members of which 951 are FASNY members.

No report.  Royer Pfersick asked that all names be submitted to him in time for quarterly meeting.


Steering Committee

      No report


Topics Committee

No report



Bill Nichols said that solicitor is going full swing. There has been $4886.80 profit so far this year.    Glenn Klingenberger requested that the President please contact the solicitor with his proper contact information.





Al Way commented that the FASNY Convention was one of the best yet. Good presentations. There were attendees from many Monroe County departments.



Ken Fuller said will give a full report at the Quarterly meeting.  Western had a successful convention.  There were perfect scores by the EMS Competition winners.  New VP is Bruce Mack. Next Meeting of Western is September 14th with a legislative program at noon and meeting at 2 PM.



Gordon Burris reported that the next meeting is on September 21st at the North Rose Fire Department.




Chaplain’s Association

County Fire Chiefs

Al Sweet reported that the Equipment Seminar at Barnard Exempts went well.


County Fire Police

Robert Chichester reported the next meeting is on the September 4th at Spencerport Exempts with a demo at 6 PM to start..


EMS Advisory Board

No report


Finger Lakes Burn Association

No report


Fire Advisory Board

Larry Ritz noted the next meeting will be on September 15th.


Firemen’s Home

Al Way reported that there are 70 members at the home. One member was lost last week.  There are 3 new trustees to the Home.  Marilyn Shrader is the 1st  female trustee. They will have training the weekend of the 18th-21st.  Two windows will be dedicated on Sunday.


Safety Officers

State Fire Police

Clarence Spohr noted that the next meeting is the 1st Saturday of September.




1st Battalion

Chuck Bommele noted that this might be his second to last meeting. He and his wife are moving to Florida.


2nd Battalion

4th Battalion

Ken Fuller reported that there was a lightning strike causing a fire in a new development in Churchville. Access was difficult and 2 pumpers were required to reach the home.

Glenn Klingenberger asked if the shirt order was closed because a few people still need one.  They will be ordered.



There was some discussion if the stipend to the fire department that hosts the quarterly should be increased.  Consensus was not for now.  A motion was made by Al Way, seconded by Lynd Hicks and carried to appoint Royer Pfersick to fill the 5th Battalion director seat vacated by Diana Pfersick when she assumed the secretary position.  Dick Diehl reminded the members that they need to get any budget items to him prior to the budget committee meeting on September 10th.   A motion was made by Glenn Klingenberger, seconded by Lynd Hicks and carried to purchase 2 tables at the Firefighter Recognition Banquet.  A sign up list was passed around.  Contact the President if need a ticket.



A motion was made by Al way, seconded by Chuck Bommele and carried to pay bills as presented by William Nichols.

Good of Organization

Al way note that the softball tournament held at the Home was a good event. Lakeshore received 2 trophies. One trophy for sportsmanship and one for 2nd place.


Next Meeting of the BOD is September 24th


Next Quarterly Meeting of the Organization is October 23rd at Barnard Exempts.



After a closing prayer by Chaplain Royer Pfersick, a motion was made by Ken Fuller, seconded by Dick Diehl and carried to adjourn the meeting at 2004.
